Bugs that prevent sickies

Perhaps only the Swedes would feed workers bugs a every to day to see if it had a positive effect on health. The probiotic yoghurt-type drinks with "friendly" bacteria can dramatically reduce sickies through colds and stomach upsets, the study found. The research was led by Dr Py Tubelius, from Tetra Pak Occupational Health and Safety. He believes that "an immune stimulation" lies behind the result.

Atkins and heart damage

A study for the British Heart Foundation has uncovered a possible link between the Atkins diet and heart damage. The high fat low carb diet seems to affect the heart's ability to store energy.

After just two weeks on the diet of mostly meat, eggs and dairy products, the study found that the heart's "fuel tank" was reduced.

This was reversed within two weeks of reverting to a balanced diet.
